Across New Zealand and around the world, the artisan bakery scene is experiencing a renaissance. Consumers are seeking out small-batch, handcrafted treats that offer both comfort and creativity, fueling a surge in independent bakeries and food ventures that blend nostalgia with innovation. This shift is more than a trend—it’s a return to the simple joys of quality ingredients, traditional techniques, and the unmistakable warmth of something made by hand. In a landscape where food is as much about experience as it is about flavour, bakeries are reimagining classic favourites and inviting communities to rediscover the magic in every bite. It’s within this vibrant, ever-evolving industry that Scroll Station has found its sweet spot. Born in Dunedin and helmed by a passionate chef with a knack for reinvention, Scroll Station transforms the humble cinnamon scroll into a canvas for imagination. Here, every swirl tells a story—of craft, of community, and of the happiness that comes from sharing something truly special. From its beginnings as a market stall to its bright, bustling food trailer, Scroll Station is proof that when heart and creativity meet, even the simplest treat can become a local legend.
A Culinary Dream Rolled into a Sweet Side Hustle

Scroll Station is the brainchild of Jessica, a classically trained chef and passionate baker whose love for food began long before professional training. After completing her Bachelor of Culinary Arts at Otago Polytechnic in 2018, Jessica gained hands-on experience in a range of hospitality roles — but her true love remained in the oven. Working as a baker at a beachside café in St Clair, she began experimenting with scrolls and sharing her creations with colleagues and friends. The response was immediate: people loved them. Not just for the nostalgic hit of cinnamon sugar, but for the unique flavour twists, soft dough, and generous toppings. What began as compliments quickly became customer requests — and eventually, a business idea. In late 2021, Jessica took a leap of faith and launched Scroll Station at the Wingatui Market, rolling out tray after tray of scrolls in her home kitchen and selling them at weekend markets. The feedback was overwhelming, the queues grew longer, and a side hustle was suddenly something more. With passion guiding every decision, she expanded her operations, began catering for functions, and built a loyal community of scroll lovers across Dunedin.
From Market Favourite to Food Trailer Dream Come True

In 2024, Jessica’s long-held dream became reality with the launch of the Scroll Station food trailer — a mobile bakery-on-wheels serving up fresh scrolls at markets, events, and street corners around Dunedin. Bright, inviting, and filled with the scent of warm cinnamon and vanilla, the trailer embodies everything the brand stands for: joy, creativity, and community. Jessica’s scrolls aren’t just baked goods — they’re moments of comfort, celebration, and connection. Whether catering for office morning teas, delivering surprise treat boxes, or setting up at weekend festivals, Scroll Station brings a personal touch to every interaction. Each scroll is hand-rolled, baked in small batches, and topped with care, ensuring quality you can taste. As the brand continues to grow, its roots remain grounded in the values that started it all: a love of baking, a commitment to craft, and the thrill of watching a single scroll brighten someone’s day. Scroll Station is proof that when passion meets purpose (and a sprinkle of sugar), delicious things happen — one swirl at a time.
